Uhuru Design ‘Stoolen’ helped to define the term Upcycling.

Beauty rests on Utility

Incorporated in Uhuru Designs mission is to utilize materials that have been reclaimed, recycled, repurposed, reused or rejected. The materials that they use range from collected scrapwood to reclaimed wood from a decommissioned battleship.

One of the groups most popular design is ‘Stoolen’. Sparked by Bill Hilgendorfs love for found objects, it is created from collected scraps of hardwood from local workshops and a found bicycle rim. It is claimed that this early Upcycling design helped to define the term Upcycling.
